About Traditional Thai Yoga Message Therapy

Unlike a typical table massage, Thai Yoga Massage Therapy is done on a mat on the floor. To allow for ease of movement during the session, both the practitioner and receiver wear loose, comfortable clothes. Thai Yoga Massage works to stimulate, open and balance the flow of energy through the sen lines to assist the body in its natural tendency towards self-healing.

During a Thai Yoga Massage the receiver will experience clear, calm meditative state leave feeling deeply nourished, relaxed, and filled with energy.

This practice is based on the belief that energy known as lom runs throughout the body. Using an extensive variety of techniques, the practitioner will work to balance this energy, as well as to mobilize the joints, and renew the physical, and spiritual body resulting in deep relaxation and renewal.

This is achieved through rhythmic manipulation of sen lines; mobilization of joints; passive stretches and applied Yoga asanas. In practice the massage unfolds like a continuous and rhythmic dance. These techniques include reflexology, acupressure, plucking, compression work, therapeutic stretching, joint mobilization, assisted yoga poses, intention and meditation.

The style Sinda teaches is from the north and is based on the work of master healer, Pichest Boonthumme from Chang Mai. Pichest is largely responsible for having put together the most dynamic and flowing of the northern styles.

History

Nuad Bo’ Ram or ancient healing touch has come to be called Traditional Thai Yoga Massage.  It is one of the three main branches of the ancient Thai Medical system. The founder of this system is thought to have been Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, a doctor from North India, who was the personal physician to the Magadha King Bimbisara more than 2,500 years ago. The teachings of Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha are said to have reached Thailand from India along with Buddhism in the 2nd or 3rd century BC.

Traditional Thai Massage is based on the concept of an energy system comprising 72,000 'sen' lines through which energy is transformed and distributed in the human body. This is similar to the system of 'nadhis' found in Ayurvedic medicine and yoga.

Thai Yoga Massage exemplifies the four divine states of mind described in Buddhist teachings. These are: loving kindness, compassion, vicarious joy and equanimity. Thai Yoga Massage is traditionally taught and practiced with the aim of embodying these states in action. For this reason the massage is sometimes referred to as 'meditation in movement'.

Thai Yoga Massage stimulates and balances the flow of healing energy within the body, opening the areas which are blocked bringing the person deeper into balance and harmony for health, happiness and wellness of being. This system creates a powerful release of stress and tension, an increase in vitality and well-being and it deepens the connection between mind, body and spirit .
